Airlie Beach - Cape Hillsborough (Qld)
(Monday, 06/08/2009)
Weather: very nice / Temp: 28 ° C / Wind: 3 - 4 HE
Our next goal, the National Park Cape Hillsborough ", only about 100 km further south. After two hours of driving, including 10 km on "Gravel Road", we are there. On the dam of this peninsula lies the "Nature Resort", where we choose a sunny spot.
Although the campsite located on the beautiful sandy beach, is because of the "Box Jelly Fish," the impossible here during the "Wet Season" swimming in the sea, a large swimming pool.
On the beach we are greeted warmly by the Wallabis. You are here rarely trusting.
A wallabies on the beach is rather an unusual sight. The animals drink salt water here, thereby balancing their salt deficiency.
The hopping friends are here on the peninsula apparently very good.
look around midday, the animals a shady spot to rest.
After lunch we take an hour walk along the "Andrews Point track" on the peninsula.
The track begins and ends at the beach again on shuffle mode. However, the whole walk at low tide are committed in this way.
The path partly steep stone steps uphill. Good footwear is recommended.
From the "Lookout" we have a wonderful view of the sandy beach and the offshore island, "Wedge Iceland ", which can be reached at low tide by a causeway as well.
Back to the beach it's faster. In the forest glades, we walk through bizarre" Grass Trees, "which in appearance establish a certain similarity to the "Fern Trees" have.
The tide is gradually dam to the "Wedge Iceland" free. is the first clock at 17.30, however, the lowest level to be reached.
The rock formations along the beach are already free.
As we return to the campsite, grazing behind our Büssli a single wallabies and can not interfere with our presence.
Suddenly we hear the laughter of a typical "Kookaburra". Naughty looks this cute bird down on us.
fly Shortly thereafter brought three more of these carnivorous birds. They have apparently found something to eat, so you also widely audible call.
We have never been free-living "Kookaburras" so close. This fascinated by birds are unusually tame.
Today's Australian lamb again. This tastes at least as good as the imported at home with us from New Zealand.
Cape Hillsborough - Eungella (Qld)
(Tuesday, 9.6.2009)
Weather: very nice / Temp: 25 degrees / Wind: 1 - 3 HE
already at half past six will take place on the beach and feed the Wallabis Kangeroos.
It is a great experience, which in itself wild animals so close.
The Wallabis are to the Used to and enjoy stroking it clearly.
We then make a jog along the beach (luckily there is currently low tide).
relative late we leave today, this beautiful "Kangaroo-beach" and continue along the east coast to the south. In "Mackay", we turn inland to the more "Eungella National Park to look at. First, let's look at the "Finch Hatton Gorge on. Up to this national park we have at least six "Floodways" cross. Fortunately, the water level is not too deep and the concrete surface, so that our Büssli has no problems.
The "Picnic Area" been waiting "Kookaburras". Sometimes they fly narrowly past our heads, so we each instinctively move their heads. Fortunately, they are slow fliers and not as fast as the swallows.
would prefer to stroke these "schnüssigen" creatures.
We walk through a "Walk Trail, a half hour through the jungle up with a small waterfall pool.
for swimming but the water is too cold.
We continue to "Eungella" our goal today. In the Pioneer Valley "is planted in front of all the sugar cane.
along the fields you can often find the tracks for the Zuckerrohrbähnchen.
some point we cross nor the Broken River. "
We gradually close the valley and the steep road. Our goal is on the ridge to 736 m elevation.
The last few miles the road is rising up to 12% and is closed to trucks and caravans. At the top, we drink in the restaurant of the Hotel Chalet "a cappuccino.
The views of the Pioneer Valley "is terrific.
The hotel also has a swimming pool.
We move to the nearby campsite Eungella Holiday Park ", which is just as beautiful views of the endless" Pioneer Valley. " Our Büssli is right on the edge of the mountain slope. This is probably one of the most beautifully situated camp sites, which we have seen in Australia ever. Also free wireless is available :-)
It cools up here in the interior but from very beautiful, so we decide in the "Chalet Restaurant" go to eat. Tanja and Karsten, a couple from Germany come in too. We met at the last camp in the Cape Hillsborough. The food tastes great, and we spend a pleasant, entertaining evening.
In Eungella National Park (Qld) (Wednesday, 10.6.2009)
Weather: very nice / Temp: 22 degrees / Wind: 1 - there are 2 HE
We this morning on, because we want to look at the Platypus (Platypus). This living in Australia only in aquatic animals is best observed in the off-peak hours because it is a nocturnal loner really. The "Platypus" is an egg laying mammal that can swim and won most of his life spent in the water. It prefers clean, standing or flowing waters. It comes in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and, on the island of Tasmania.
The dawn conjures a breathtaking atmosphere of the Pioneer Valley. "
the valley gradually awakened from his sleep. We enjoy from the rising sun at breakfast on the veranda of the campground.
After breakfast we jump to "Broken River down. It is now Morning bitter cold. The thermometer stood at only 10 degrees. Dump in layers near the ground, the temperature drops down to 0 degrees off. We believe in the roadside even seen frost. We have taken all our warm clothes. To watch the "Platypus" is a walking path along the river with several viewing platforms.
There are also a lot Wasserschildkörten.
discover after a long wait we finally the first "Platypus". They appear usually only for brief moments and it is not easy to photograph them.
The strange looking animals are not large. The body length of the platypus is only 30 to 40 centimeters. The tail, which is used as fat storage is 10 to 15 centimeters long.
the end of our morning excursion flutters unexpectedly, a colorful little bird in front of us on a branch.
We drive back to the campsite for us to warm up at a cafe called something. On the way we put the "Sky Window Outlook" with a brief stop. The view on the green "Pioneer Valley" is beautiful.
The "Kookaburra" here are omnipresent. When Anita is not for a short time paying attention, one of those funny birds steal a grapefruit but smooth carving from the plate.
They are not only bold, they also look just as cheeky bargain.
Close to our Büssli is a mandarin tree full of ripe fruit. (No, we have purchased the mandarins in the shop ;-) walk
After lunch at the "Track Walk" from "Eungella" to the "Sky Window Lookout," a way of the cross through the tropical jungle runs.
The deep green "Palm Trees" are always fascinating. They are particularly high stocky.
The tropical trees often host other plants such as orchids. The path leads through one of these magnificent specimens.
The highlight of the day, "Susan's Hideaway Café is. This gem of an estate, and especially the garden are unique gems, such as from another world.
First we enjoyed on the veranda with wonderful views of the hills of "Eungella" a cappuccino with homemade apple strudel.
Even the apple strudel suggests that we are dealing here with a very exceptional man. It is prepared with love and tastes great. We type on a German or Austrian origin. In conversation it becomes apparent that they emigrated 20 years ago from Germany :-)
we feel puts us in a magical fairyland. Susan is a true artist and has a Creativity seeks to none. Many of her works of art of various kinds issued it in a stylish gallery (here out of respect for the art works are not in the picture).
Finally, we are allowed to enter their private garden.
through a pretty garden we enter an absolute in a gem of a tropical flower garden.
What we expect here, everything suggests that had been experienced. Presents us with a unique winter wonderland. We come in for a surprise out more. Millions of small, colored glass stones form this elaborate flowers, ornaments, fungi, animals, angels and many other works of art. The whole garden is also deposited with background music, which from hidden loudspeakers caress the ears.
We float like a dream through the extensive way.
Simply incredible what this woman made and how much time, energy and love she brought into this garden and the house has.
this has she ventured to a wide range of topics, as here, for example, a Treasury
an orchid house,
or Campfire.
We can also find typical garden elements, such as the swan in the pond,
the birds in the forest
or a fruit basket. Everything is designed with great attention to detail and prepared.
We are excited about the beautiful garden and would like to thank this remarkable woman. Back to the campsite, we need not go far. We enjoy the warm afternoon sun, because today has long been one of the coldest days (max. 22 degrees).
We've updated our "Chalet Restaurant" award and eaten yet inexpensive, so that we now enjoy once more the good food.
