In Emu Park (Qld) (Sunday, 14.6.2009)
Weather: very nice / Temp: 28 degrees / Wind: 1 - 2 HE
Because the weather in this area should continue to stay nice and warm, we are still hanging on another day. Every morning we are woken by the "Kookaburra". They are the first to make at dawn attention. Then cover the variety of parrots gather with her screaming in the trees around us. Above all of the colorful "Rainbow Lorikeets" there are innumerable.
often meet these lively birds on a couple.
There are many other birds, such as the "Magpie", on the tree directly in front of our Büssli. The east coast is a real bird paradise.
We do this morning, the village of Emu Park View 10 km south from the campsite. The coast road leads across the bridge that the marine connection of the Causeway Lake "crossed the sea. Currently, there is low tide, so the flow dwindled to a trickle.
take a few minutes later we saw in "Emu Park". To come forward to take away, we have from the village of Emu Park "expected something more. Besides the "Singing Ship, a monument in honor of Captain James Cook", which end here May was landed in 1770, there is not much visited.
In the memorial wind pipes are installed, wrap up the work of art of wind into a magical sound.
Unfortunately we have not in the village to find an emu ;-) "Emu Park" has obviously seems no more a tourist ambitions and Age settlement to be. A sign at the entrance of the village also indicates that one should take on the old pedestrian consideration.
We drive via "Yeppoon", where we eat for lunch a little thing, back to the campsite. "Hairdresser Anita" has just opened and I (Heinz) look 10 years younger then smooth out :-)
Yeppoon - Rockhampton (Qld) (Monday, 06/15/2009)
Weather: very nice / Temp: 28 degrees / Wind : 1 - 2 HE
It's a wonderful morning. The thermometer already at 16 degrees. Nevertheless, in small Mudenlagen Nebelchen formed. First, we take a jog on the wide sandy beach. The little ones were already busy and have the entire beach with millions of tiny beads coated sand, is an ideal base for running :-)
The tide in the dark Sand also left millions of small Müsch elk, the crunch under the jogging shoes such as powder.
Our next destination, the town "Rockhampton" with about 60,000 inhabitants, only about 40 km from the "Capricorn Coast" removed. She is best known as the "capital of the cattle", where you can eat a good steak. The whole area of "Rockhampton", which is called by the locals nicknamed "Rocky" is, Gem Fund area. Everywhere people are digging and dredging. Ages ago camped in the river beds sapphire and zircon. Before anything is built somewhere, so first of all plowed up the ground, if there are not just including precious sapphires. Only when the soil was sifted several times, for example, may create a paved road or a house to be built.
As already mentioned, the area was here about 60 million years strong volcanic. Everywhere we see the typical of the weather over millions of years eroded volcanic cones.
take half an hour we already on the BIG4 Camping Discovery Holiday Park ". Although the site lies on the main access road into the city, on the Bruce Highway. Since we have allocated a plot but in the back, we heard from the street noise at all. The campsite lies less in the countryside. On one side is adjacent to a sports field with a large meadow on the other two sides of meadows.
The available WLAN in the campsite is unfortunately only in the "continuously-mode" accessible, which is not very user friendly. Fortunately McCafé is not far away :-) So we can readjust our travel diary at rest and view our email. According to an email from Sandra and Frank from Radebeul, we have it :-( apparently yesterday in "Emu Park" and this morning in "Rockhampton" again missed by a hair, we should continue our meetings but may not leave to chance. We may create there with a meeting in "Brisbane", before they fly back to Europe.
The journey here we are stupid enough to run over an animal carcass, so that we the pungent Kotgestank a "Car Wash" must get rid of for now.
the Australian salmon, Anita made with love, today we can enjoy dinner in a T-shirt. When the sun goes down, we still measure a pleasant 26 degrees.
middle of the week, the weathermen have sadly predicted a massive slowdown. Let's see if it's true.
In Rockhampton (Qld) (Tuesday, 16/06/2009)
Weather: very beautiful / Temp: 28 °, Wind: 1 - 2 HE
In the night it cools down only to 18 degrees, not just winter temperatures, when compared with Europe. Even today we can enjoy breakfast in the sunshine, because we stand on one of the few places with morning sun.
This morning we drive along the "Mt Archer Lookout" in the north of the city. The view of the city from the 600 m high mountain is worth seeing.
The "Fitzroy River" winds through the middle of the large-scale city.
In the north you can see the volcanic hills, where we have gone through yesterday, just barely.
The different "look outs" are by "Walk Tracks" linked. The deep green "grass trees" on the roadside and exotic flowers fascinate us again and again.
After visiting the city of "Rockhampton", which is located on the south side of the Fitzroy River. "
We find after some searching a few remarkable buildings of the colonial period.
The hotel "The Edge", one of the few high-rises of this city, like on us by the best modern buildings.
From downtown, however, we expected something more. Except for a measly shopping street is a real center is barely visible. In "McCafe" we want with a "cappuccino" to cheer again. Unfortunately, nil, for the first time we like this at all from "McCafe" otherwise always well prepared drink. Of foam hardly anything to be seen. Instead of cocoa powder, they have time with cinnamon sugar sprinkled on it or something similar. We go back to the campsite and spend the afternoon with "Dolce far niente." As can be determined not go wrong :-)
at the eucalyptus trees in the sunset we can not get enough.
Likewise it is with us with the magical colors of a beautiful dawn in the tropics.
In Rockhampton (Qld) (Wednesday, 17/06/2009)
Weather: very nice / Temp: 28 ° C / Wind: 1 - 2 HE
"Rockhampton" has a combined Botanical / Zoological Garden, which will be worth seeing. We want the full-bodied descriptions of tourist brochures over now skeptical. Anyway, this day again a try ;-)
Our weather luck continues. The day begins with a cloudless sky. Only one in the north are a few clouds of smoke from a bush fire, which we have already seen yesterday evening. Our jogging round, we turn now to the sports field, which lies next to our campsite.
The zoological garden is located on the other side of town. About the Bruce Highway, "we are there in a quarter of an hour. It is situated at the Murray Lagoon "or" Yepp Yepp Lagoon where the water surface with some green stuff is overgrown and a haven for water birds also.
so large numbers of birds of different species cavort here on the shore, on water and in the trees around.
The "Ibises" with the long, narrow beaks are well represented here,
as the many "Kakadoos" that her croaking are probably the loudest on the pitch.
The zoological garden is rather small and not very well maintained. He seems to be lacking the necessary money. A few animals, we have yet to face.
a wild "Dingo" we have only yesterday when we ride on the "Mt Archer" seen. Here at the zoo, they seem a bit bored.
"What are you looking at?" will think this "Koala" :-) sleepy
Since the "koala" most of their lives, they will stay at the zoo have less impact than the "dingo".
The "Sizzler" we make ourselves on the "Salad Bar" and "dessert bar" her "All you can eat" but we will not be taken literally. Yes we want to fly back to Europe ultimately not perfectly round.
the sunset we see you tonight from the "Mt Archer", on. In raking light of the setting The volcanic hills sun come across particularly well.
Through the smoke of bush fire, the drama of the sunset is still reinforced.
When we arrive at the campsite, it is already dark. The dawn never lasts very long. As a conclusion of our stay in "Rockhampton" we invite us to "Dinner in the restaurant of the campsite one :-)
