Byron Bay - Coffs Harbour (NSW) (Tuesday, 07/21/2009)
Weather: very nice windy / Temp: 26 degrees / Wind: 2 - 5 HE
"Byron Bay" with the special flair hippie from the seventies, the many shopping arcades, the cozy restaurants and cafes to relax and the fantastically beautiful bays with the dolphins and whales is another highlight on our trip to Australia. As the final pictures of "Byron Bay" following one of the most beautiful of the many mosaics with which the pavement surfaces are decorated and another sand sculpture on the beach:
Last night we're at an art shop happens to be a spectacular DVD-Video about "Byron Bay" seen with beautiful shots of the dolphins and whales. That we want to bring us this morning before we left yet. But as with artists shall run from regular working hours they do not hold too much. As we look at nine clock, the loading door is still closed. The woman in the neighboring shop said that the owner should normally arrive 9:00 to 21:30 clock.
We now go drink a coffee, hoping to get the great video after all. At half past ten still no one from the shop is present. The neighbor woman says in front of us the video, they would have bought it long ago and the dolphins and whales were an absolute dream. We consider us seriously if we are to walk because of the videos do not stay another day in Byron Bay "and somewhat aimless to the beach promenade. We take a last wistful look at the beautiful sandy beach and go back to shop again.
And once again, is the luck on our side. A woman has the shop just open-minded and sincerely apologizes to our demand because of the delay. Us offers to the video so make A $ 5.00 cheaper. We agree, of course, happy to :-)
Our next goal "Coffs Harbour, about 240 km south of Byron Bay on the coast again. We drive mostly on the "Pacific Highway", which forms the main link between Brisbane and Sydney and won only two lanes built is truly amazing ;-) On the "Pacific Highway" makes the "Trident Fish Bar" with a king prawn (hudge Prawn) on attracted attention.
We the huge, lifelike sculpted animal can be seen from afar.
At a rest stop on the Clarence River, "we take a short lunch break.
clicking the " Park Beach Caravan Park " in "Coffs Harbour" we get a sunny spot. The "Top Tourist Park is located right on the beach promenade and has an excellent infrastructure. The "Kitchen with BBQ" is set up great, "Jumping Pillow" and a large swimming pool are also available as a free wireless network.
At dinner before our Büssli we are accompanied by a fabulous sunset.
Thanks to the powerful image clouds the whole sky seems to burn really about us.
In Coffs Harbour (NSW) (Wednesday, 07/22/2009)
Weather: fine to cloudy / Temp: 25 degrees / Wind: 1 - 3 HE
Almost we experience a real summer night and this surrounded by the Australian winter. The thermometer stood at six-thirty in the morning to 19.5 degrees Celsius clock :-) For this "Ibis", unfortunately the day has begun so well. He broke his right wing apparently. Its future in the wild is uncertain. He're sorry, but we can not do much for him.
After breakfast we walk on the "Coffs Creek Walk along the small foot in the city. This starts right behind the campground at the river mouth into the sea.
emerge at low tide near the river mouth Sandbanks, which are used by the birds for the morning toilet.
The walk takes in part of a complex part of mangrove forest ridge
The mangrove trees bear yellow fruit currently.
The "Coffs Creek" has hardly any current offers countless birds and a welcome habitat.
The path leads past the "Historic Cemetery Coffs Harbour. It's not as if we were on our trip usually visit cemeteries, but since this is still on the way, let's take a quick look into it. The cemeteries in Australia differ, as can be seen, but much of our own home.
the way we meet our favorites, the "Rainbow Lorikeet" while bathing in a garden trough.
After one hour we arrive at the center of town, where the main shopping street and its many shops and cafes.
The shopping arcades are decorated nicely, but also flows of traffic through the middle, though in moderate pace and priority for pedestrians.
"Swiss Chalet" means a café in the center, which is run by a Swiss from Verbier. For dessert there, we enjoy a cappuccino with Black Forest cake. Then we walk back to the campsite. In a loop of the River "Coffs Creek, next to the cemetery, lies the sprawling" Botanic Garden ", which serves the population as a recreational area.
We make a short tour through the beautifully landscaped park with tropical plants.
The park is currently occupy a "Koala". We look in vain up into the eucalyptus trees, until we almost get a stiff neck.
Coffs Harbour - Port Macquarie (NSW) (Thursday, 7/23/2009)
Weather: very nice, windy / Temp: 25 degrees / Wind: 3 - 5 Bf .
Overnight, the clouds have moved again yesterday afternoon and a dark blue sky arches over us. It has cooled only slightly in spite of the clear sky. Today, tomorrow morning we measure already comfortable 18 degrees and the sun heats up dramatically. It is again an absolute dream day.
A bird breeding pairs in the middle of the camping meadow their eggs, not a very quiet place for this task.
We drive today to "Port Macquarie", which is 165 km south of "Coffs Harbour" is again on the Pacific Ocean. The BIG4 campsite aiming for " Sundowner Breakwall Tourist Park " is located in the city next to the "Inlet" placement into the sea. The place is quite large with over 330 plots and also has a free Wi-Fi, which can be received but only near the office building.
In the large Swimming pool, there is currently a gaping void. For bathing, the water, even for locals, too cold.
We receive a large meadow parcel nestled between pine trees, separated only by a causeway accessible from the "Inlet".
"Port Macquarie is one of the oldest settlements in Australia and was founded by convicts bereits1821. It now has about 34,000 inhabitants. The town offers many water sports and miles of swimming and surfing beaches. One of them is right next to our campsite.
a walk after lunch we in only a few hundred meters away downtown. The causeway leads directly to the center, where the shopping streets are located, including the "Port Central", a big "shopping center".
In the photo shop (center), we first see the "Kodak Z980 Digital Camera, which is in the forefront of our evaluation. We are amazed at the size of the camera. She's a lot bulkier than our previous Kodak P850.
We let the expert show short. The second-placed Canon Powershot SX10 "is no less great.
is still the race to be decided. See directly behind the shopping center, we built a brick church, which are typical of Australia.
The sunset over the "Inlet" promises continued good weather.
