Mount Warning - Byron Bay (NSW) (Tuesday, 14.7.2009)

We are always surprised at how quickly the weather can change here. Last night we had cloudless sky above us. In the night it rained sometime in the morning and can already be seen, the sun :-)
We slept well, for this nature-loving camp it was very quiet and dark at the same time. A "Kookaburra" is sitting on the eucalyptus tree next to our Büssli and wakes us with his inimitable reputation from sleep.
Our electronic alarm clock has been long replaced by the "laughing Hans". Soon we will also miss this bold-looking bird, because we have to move after only about two weeks with us before our departure to Europe :-(
Today Let us again to the coast to Byron Bay. The southernmost and westernmost point of Australia, we have already happened. "Byron Bay is the easternmost city of this continent. We have chosen this time no specific camp, but let us be guided by intuition. We drive directly into the center of this beautiful place, and lo and behold, just before the center is a sign points to a centrally located campsite.
The " First Sun Holiday Park Byron Bay " is in every respect an absolute top position. It is located directly on the sandy beach only three minutes walk from the village center and has excellent modern infrastructure, including "Free Wireless". The sanitary double block is modern and has enough showers and toilets
And we're lucky, there are just two more "power sites" free.
Only a few steps, and we are at the endless sand beach of Byron Bay, with several kilometers of coastal ideal for jogging.
The internal camping BBQ area overlooking the sea is uniquely situated.
Next to the campground closes at a public swimming pool with 50 meter pool. We can practice in the trunks of "Büssli" jump in the pool.
After we have installed, we make our obligatory discovery stroll to the village center.
We are surprised by the number and variety of shops, boutiques, restaurants, cafes, shopping centers and shopping arcades in this seemingly small place. "Byron Bay" proposes in this respect even "Airlie Beach".
Here you can stroll around for hours without it one is boring. The only disturbing factor is the huge traffic in the streets. A traffic-free pedestrian zone, we look in vain.
We also find beautiful corners to stay, such as restaurants and cafes on the upper floor.

Our favorite supermarket "Woolworths" is just a short walk from the campsite.
"wave surfing" is number one sport at this beach. Accordingly are many surf shops and rentals are in place.

The night was starry. Accordingly, it has greatly cooled. Early in the morning, we measure only 9 degrees air temperature. The shining sun in the cloudless sky, but heated up quickly, so that we can have breakfast before the "Büssli.
The beach is nearly deserted.
The "Mount Warning," which was the first point of the Australian mainland in the early morning the sun shines, is characterized in the crisp morning air with its distinctive peak on the horizon.
We had planned to go jogging this morning, but the Kraxelei of yesterday on the "Mount Warning" us is still in the bone. So we limit ourselves to the "Five Tibetans" ;-)
We need once again a "recovery and recreation day". The laundry dries in such ideal weather conditions in an instant.

We start our hike from the campsite. First, we walk the beautiful beach promenade of "Byron Bay" along.

From this point, we look up to the highest point of the Byron Bay Peninsula.
Then we climb the steep stairs to the viewing platform.
Whale and Dolphin Watching is this mountain, with panoramic views of the ocean best possible. And in fact we can glimpse in the distance, a pack of dolphins (About six of them, see red circle).

The view of the east coast of the peninsula is fantastic.
The trail follows the east side of the mountain through the tropical forest steeply down almost to the beach. A few rare flowers along the way excited.
"Byron Bay" was once a haven for backpackers. Still be seen in the streets "hippies" and "Backpackers", artists, street musicians and young people with long braided pigtails and typical hippie clothing.
too "hippie campers" there are above average ;-) On our campsite, we have now counted at least three.
"Byron Bay" has now grown into one of the most popular resorts on the coast of New South Wales ". We can only confirm. The idyllic village is another highlight on our Australia trip. Because we "Byron Bay" like so much, we just decided to extend our stay to 7 days :-)
There are many restaurants in the city so that we are spoiled for choice. Finally we arrive at the "Indian". The "Café Byron Orion Curry House" makes a very good impression. The food is delicious and the price performance is right too.

Today we stand in time to, because we want the sunrise not fail to be held at 06.30 clock. The dawn is at least as beautiful as the real sunrise.
