Weather: very nice / Temp: 25 degrees / Wind: 1 - 3 HE

A magnificent days promises to be a flawless blue sky. All clouds are blown away by yesterday. In addition, there is almost no wind, ideal for our Sunday breakfast with eggs.

Today we cross the state border of Queensland "to" New South Wales ". Our goal, "Tweed Heads is located just behind the border, which oddly enough is not the natural" Tweed River, but across the landscape or the airport runs.

the way we do with a fancy "Burleigh Heads" Stop and see us there, the surf scene. It will just take a small wave surfing event, so that the Sunday beach promenade quite populated. We need to look for unusually long until we find a parking space for our Büssli. For this, we pass a stylish skyscrapers.

The beach is totally focused on the surfing scene.

there are plenty of introductory courses and Mietboards offered. The beach is suitable for all levels of the shaft.

The rising Park is ideally located for the spectators and the jury of the competition.

The view back to "Southport" over the sparkling sea is impressive.

But let us just a little to the intrepid surfers as they glide in part without neoprene water at 19 degrees and 24 degrees air temperature by up to four meters high waves.

are in need for the brave "Life Guards" with "Jet Skis" there immediately.

The force of the waves is not to be underestimated.

We still throw back one last look at the skyline of Surfers Paradise, before heading south to "Tweed Heads" more.

the targeted camp "Pyramid Holiday Park is a" Top Tourist Park with a great infrastructure and "free wireless" included. The only drawback, it lies almost in the axis of the flight landing strip :-) Although the airport is relatively small, it is nevertheless of "Sydney", "Melbourne", "Adelaide", "New Castle", "Canberra", "Townsville" "New Zealand", "Malaysia", "Fiji" and even "Japan" served from.

Nevertheless, secured a night's rest, because the last plane landed shortly after 2200 clock and the first we have seen only about eight clock.

After a short shopping in the beautiful "Tweed Centro Shopping Centre", we go to the same underlying coast.

The great surf is also used by many surfers.

We ascend the "Flagstaff" vantage point at the extreme end of the peninsula "Coolangatta" and enjoy the wonderful views of the raging sea.

Up here there is also another "James Cook monument with chimes. The building is exactly in the north-south east-west orientation has been built.

the middle of the surf zone is a small swimming pool that is now submerged at the prevailing tide of each wave.

Some particularly water enthusiasts face the persistent powerful waves.

The impact of these water masses is not to be underestimated. It needs to have held a due daring piece, so without a wetsuit, only swimming trunks to endure.

After a cappuccino in the only "Café Dbar" walk on this vantage point, we return to the Büssli.

Tweed Heads - Mount Warning (NSW) (Monday, 07/13/2009)
Weather: very nice / Temp: 24 ° C / Wind: 1 - 3 HE

Every morning at seven clock found here at the campsite the feeding of "Rainbow Lorikeet" instead. The singing is as always deafening.

begrudge the quarrelsome, jealous even the birds themselves Food with their beaks and peck at each other.

parrots are, nevertheless, very sociable birds. Now and then there are couples often sitting side by side peacefully :-)

We will miss the cheerful fellows in any case.

in the trees until you see how good their cover, despite the variety of colors of their plumage is.

After breakfast, we break down our tents on the coast and head inland. Our goal of about 40 km from Mount Warning ". This ancient volcano, before 20 million years ago lava and fire spat, is located in the national park west of the town "Murwillumbah" and is at least 1157 m high.

Our route takes us along the meandering through the hilly landscape "River Tweed" up to "Murwillumbah" where we make a brief stop.

From here you can cruise the "Mount Warning" with its striking peak already know well.

A steep, narrow road leads up to the national park, where it then ends at a parking lot. From there we can see the tip of Mount Warning "just barely.

for the rise of good shoes is mandatory for the 4.4 km "Track" is indeed well made, is at the top but a real climb. In addition, the rocks and stones are often wet and slippery. For the whole trip (8.8 km) are given 4 to 5 hours, we have done with one hour lunch break at 4 hours. It is on signs indicated that the tour in the winter so not to compete after 12:00 clock, because you might otherwise be surprised by the darkness.

explained When you enter a bar of the development of the continent Australia. geological perspective, Australia was once the former super continent "Pangaea," which is also South America, Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, Antarctica, and New Zealand included.

"Mount Warning" takes its name from Captain James Cook ". The prominent peak was used by sailors as a warning of the dangerous reefs in the coastal area. The "Mount Warning" is also the first point of the Australian mainland, which is affected by the early morning sun. The sunrise but we will not be able to enjoy today, because it would have to stay at the summit. First out of the "track" through tropical jungle, as we have now seen him many times.

We pass mighty forest giants, which determines to some are older than we

Gradually, the road steep and rocky.

A clearing in the otherwise dense vegetation gives us a first look at the unspoiled landscape and other volcanic cones.

The lakes with the "Clarrie Hall Dam" reminds us a little to the south German "Allgäu" with its beautiful alpine lakes.

Half of the distance we have already done. The vegetation is changing and is now more subtropical.

And then begins the more demanding Climbing. A sign along the way points out that this is not part of the mountain with thunderstorms can be climbed.

is to secure the several hundred yards long rock climb anchored a steel chain.

we certainly are however not the only ones who master this difficult passage. Even mothers with small children venturing up here. We have yet to see someone actually come down barefoot. Somehow fits the overall security of Australians do not really think about this picture ;-)

Finally, after a quarter hours we reached the summit.

Around the mountaintop out a way of connecting multiple viewing platforms.

The views of the surrounding cratered landscape is fantastic.

In the distance we can see the "Tweed River" with "Murwillumbah".

Because today there is relatively clear weather, you can see on the horizon, even the skyline of Surfers Paradise

The coast in the southeast, where we're going tomorrow, is still clearly visible.

The blue sky is reflected in the lake of the Clarrie Hall Dam.

On the descent we are amazed at how many people climb up to late hour. We still have the recommendation of the National Park Administration in the head. Anyway, we get safely to the bottom. We break the "Mount Warning Holiday Park" in which only a few kilometers further down on the edge of the park.
