In Byron Bay (NSW) (Friday, 17/07/2009)
Weather: very nice, windy / Temp: 22 degrees / Wind: 3 - 5 HE
The air is very clear this morning. We walk past the west "Belongil Beach" along.
The "Mount Warning" beckons us to the distance.
are on this stretch of coast is red sandstone rock formations that form the white sand and blue sea, sky and a welcome contrast.
The sandstone is so soft that one can carve into it even with bare fingers, something. This has been done so thoroughly and artistically ambitious "Tutankhamun" or the film character "ET" carved from the stone.
The soft sandstone and the sand dunes to the sea and offer little resistance to the elements, so that soil erosion is enormous, and to protect the coast in the area of residential buildings with sand bags must.
is the western part of the sandy beach at the same time the dog beach of Byron Bay ". Otherwise, dogs are prohibited on the beach.
The westernmost part of "Byron Bay" ends in a "Inlet" with mangrove forest, in which the small "Belongil Creek" flows.
With cozy reggae music, we drink in the 'Belongil Beach Coffee "a cappuccino.
Modern aging hippy work today also returns with laptops :-)
Along the beach we walk back to the campsite.
The sea is a fantastic entertainer. We could spend hours playing the amazing wave and the wave surfers . See
Although the fast viewer for all the waves as it were out for the same has, on closer inspection, each with their own character (similar to the human :-)
No, we is the other even if you watch for days.
Actually, we would like some wave surfing. At present, we simply too cold (about 19 degrees and 22 water-air temperature, strong wind). The locals are accustomed to such conditions apparently ;-)
We would rather go to the village and eat at "Mokha's" Lunch for a fine "Porridge" with fruit :-)
The "Rainbow Lorikeet" her every evening concert for the best.
In Byron Bay (NSW) (Saturday, 18/07/2009)
Weather: very nice / Temp: 24 ° C / Wind: 1 - 2 HE
Since the short, rainy night at the "Mount Warning five days ago, we always had beautiful weather and this will change according to weather forecasts for the next seven days is not too :-) After the devastating long-term rainfall in the area, the in June, leading to heavy flooding, we can speak of happiness that we had stopped at that time in northern Australia and us, accompanied "nota bene", always nice, warm weather.
Today again a perfect day to go. We repeat the beautiful, four-hour hike on the Cape Byron Walking Track "by the Cape Byron. This attractive trail is an absolute must for any "Byron Bay" visitors. It offers long stretches an absolutely fantastic view of the sea, the magnificent beaches and, not least the dolphins and whales that come here, surprisingly close to shore.
On the beach car park we encounter the typical sports equipment in the area: 4WD campervans with wave surfboards.
"I bi dä's Ibis" (in German: I am the "Ibis"), the stork-like bird greeted the two women on the bench :-)
The "Ibis" has in agglomerations adapted to humans and eats all too often of the remaining food residues on the tables and floors of restaurants, instead of seeking its natural food, with its peculiar beak.
We want the north-eastern point of the peninsula, especially once more to keep dolphins. First hike we are the "Clarke's Beach" along where wave surfers have their territory. At the end of the long beach is a small island. If low tide, you can go without getting wet on this island and offshore view of where a magnificent view of the "Clarke's Beach" and the wave surfers.
We walk on to the north eastern point of the Australian mainland. From the small hill upstream from you can watch the best social animals.
And this time we do not need to wait. A group of about a dozen dolphins foraging swims very close to the shore. We are excited.
Sometimes they stay close enough to touch away at only 50 m from shore.
The dolphins often swim in groups close to each other. They are certainly not solitary.
leaps high into the air, as known from animal parks and the movies, we have seen, unfortunately, not a single one.
Nevertheless, the intelligent mammals affect us playful and adventurous.
Surprisingly, they seem the paddle boat group did not seem to mind. They even swim merrily between the group round.
On the opposite side of the small island of view we can now make with the aid of binoculars three whales with their Ausblasfontänen. Unfortunately, they are for taking pictures too far away. The surfers are interested in the same bay the dolphins in front of them hardly. They focus on the next wave, which is suitable in this "spot" for beginners.
After an hour of "Dolphin Watching" we walk to the lighthouse up and enjoy the magnificent views of the western "Tallow Beach.
The view of this almost pristine, endlessly long sandy beach is absolutely fantastic.
The flower stems of these shrubs are often visited by the "Rainbow Lorikeets.
stands for hang gliders, especially a launch pad available.
The pilot has made the start. But shortly afterwards it lands on the wide sandy beach. A long flight was not. To do this you have the thermal or lack of momentum.
Our path leads past this launch pad. It takes quite courage to start this short distance into the abyss to jump. With a paraglider, this would hardly be possible.
The "Cape Byron Walking Track winds its way from here down through the tropical forest to the village.
go with this lovely café we passed today.
We have for lunch the "Byron Beach Café" selected. Art is available in "Byron Bay" on every corner, such as at the "Backpackers".
Even the street candelabra are painted.
For dinner, we now have the "Thai @ Byron" selected. It is a good choice, as it turns out. We have not eaten in Thailand has long been not so good and cheap Thai.
The magical "blue hour" takes to the streets of Byron Bay "a fairy-tale atmosphere.
The restaurants, cafes and shops make every effort to create a pleasant, to create inviting ambience.
The most colorful lights naturally, the stores :-)
A beautiful day and a pleasant evening to end.
